The 'Tip of the Top' tour - Cairns to Cape York and back to Cairns

Starting from Cairns we head north, to the tropical rainforest area of Australia. Our first stop will be the extremely green and beautiful Daintree National park.

Plenty of rivers to cross on the Cape York TrackVia Cooktown we go to Lakefield National Park and from here we ride north along the Peninsula Developmental Road, a gravel track in good condition, doing lots of sight seeing on the way.

The serious fun really begins at the start of the famous " Telegraph Track", the most beautiful part of the tour, that lasts all the way to the tip of the continent...and back!

The Cape York Track was originally only for serving the telegraph line. Here and there you will still see some telegraph poles, most of them fallen over. The track is in places completely washed away by the annual wet season, that cuts off the inhabitants of this northernmost part of Australia from the civilised world for about 5 months a year!

Because of the massive soil erosion, it is at times difficult to see if you are still on the right track or not. That's where the fallen telegraph poles come in handy. At least when you see one, you know that you are still on the telegraph track, and not on one of the many diversions that have been made through this rough bushland and mining areas over the years.

Make sure you bring your water-wings!Main features of the Cape York Peninsula are the countless rivers that cut through the peninsula in East-West direction, which means that we have to cross all of them! Great fun, and rest assured that you will end up with some awesome photos and video footage to show your family and friends.

On both sides of the track the jungle seems impenetrable. Crystal clear lakes, rivers and waterfalls offer an abundance of swimming opportunities.

Prepare yourself for beutiful white sandy beaches, and of course champage. Then there is the moment we have been working towards since we left Cairns: a few more kilometres on a narrow jungle track and we reach Cape York, the northernmost point of the Australian continent!

The beauty of the white beaches with palm trees, and the deep blue ocean will overwhelm you! And, after a couple of glasses of well-earned champagne on the beach, this scenery will look even more stunning than it already is…

After a couple of days we head back towards Cairns, seeing different things and more beauty on the way down.
